Information for winter
  • Snow removal
We will take care of snow removal. We will shovel and salt the sidewalks, stairs and porches. Driveways and parking lots will be plowed when necessary. We highly recommend that someone in your house owns a shovel; We will not dig cars out of plow piles in the driveways/parking lots or on the streets.
  • Heat in Apartment Buildings
If you live in one of our apartment buidings where the heat is included in your rent, we control the heat for the building. The heat will be turned on in the fall when it begins to get cold and it will be turned back off in the spring when it warms up. The heat is set to a standard of 68-70 degrees. These are older buildings with older windows and heating systems. All Storm windows must be closed, this helps keep heat inside your apartment and stop cold drafts.
  • Heat over winter break
DO NOT TURN THE HEAT OFF over winter break. If the pipes freeze while you are gone over winter break, you could be charged for any damages caused and you will not have heat when you return.
  • WINTER STREET PARKING
Alternate side parking will take effect starting Monday, December 1 and go until March 15. On even calendar days, park on the even side of the street until 5 p.m. On odd calendar days, park on the odd side of the street until 5 p.m. The change in parking occurs each day at 5 p.m. For example, since Dec. 1 is an odd day, vehicles must be moved to the even side of the street at 5 p.m. think, “park for tomorrow.” Alternate side parking rules apply to all city streets, including those with parking on only one side. Streets with no parking on either side remain “No Parking” zones. In these cases, alternate side parking does not apply.
How to set up your utilities
It is your responsibility to transfer the New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) serivce into your name as of the first day of your lease. This should be done 1-2 weeks prior to moving in. Make sure you call ahead of time to set this up. A lot of leases in Binghamton start around June 1st & NYSEG can get backed up at this time. The first step is to know what utilities you are responsible for paying. You can call them at 1-800-572-1111. Note: You should ask NYSEG about their budget plan, it may be a helpful option for you and your housemates.

If you wish to have internet and/or cable you can set this up with Time Warner Cable (No dish installations are allowed on the properties).
